A mobile app analysis firm App Annie surveyed the most popular iPhone and iPad apps for the period from July 2010 to today. The survey showed that Naver's subsidiary Line has two apps within the top-ten ranks in terms of cumulative app sales.
A mobile messenger Line, released in June 2011, ranked No. 2, while a mobile avatar service Line Play was positioned at No. 10. Line is a mobile messenger app that Naver's Japanese unit Line Corp. released in 2011, with its monthly active user number estimated at 211 million in the second quarter of 2015.
Centered in Japan and Southeast Asian countries, Line has grown into an everyday platform, going beyond the limit of the mobile messenger. Line Play, developed by Line Corp., allows users to enjoy various contents and games, while enabling them to create their own homes and avatars and exchange with social networking friends.
In terms of app sales worldwide, a music streaming service Pandora Radio ranked No. 1, while an online date service Zoosk ranked No. 3.
