Camp Mobile, a subsidiary of Korea’s largest portal Naver, announced on September 30 that its group-oriented social networking service Band passed the 50-million mark in cumulative downloads. Launched as a group-oriented acquaintance-based service in August 2012, Band surpassed the 50-million level in cumulative downloads in three years and one month.
At present, Band is in service in 178 countries worldwide. As the number of its users increases in Taiwan and India, Band took its first step as a global group-oriented service. In particular, Band is enjoying rising popularity in Taiwan and India. Over the past three months, the share of Taiwan and India in the number of Band’s new subscribers stood at 8.6 percent and 9.3 percent, respectively.
As of August 2015, Taiwan and India marked a 370-percent and 1,422-percent increase in the number of Band downloads.
A Camp Mobile official said, “In the domestic mobile service, the 50-million level in cumulative downloads has a symbolic meaning of tagging ‘global’ into the service. We will accelerate our effort to foster Band as a global mobile service by focusing on improving global user interface and marketing, starting from Taiwan in the second half of this year.”
