German automaker Volkswagen is hit hard by the latest emissions scandal in South Korea’s car market.
According to the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association, the number of the cars sold in October stood at 947, around 2,000 drop from the previous month. It is also a one-third level, compared to the same month of last year.
Luxury auto brand Audi also saw its sales drop to 2,400 in October, from the previous month.
Volkswagen's Tiguan 2.0 TDI Bluemotion, which was the bestseller in September, fell out of top 10 in October. Audi's A6 35 TDI, which was runner-up, also dropped to fourth place.
Instead, Peugeot 2008 1.6 e-HDi topped the list, followed by Lexus ES300h and Mercedes-Benz's E 220 BlueTEC.
By brand, Mercedes-Benz topped the list, followed by BMW, Audi and Peugeot in October.
Meanwhile, the total sales of imported cars stood at 17,000 units in the month, the lowest figure since February when it posted 16,700 units.
