The government-affiliated Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) on November 12 announced “Eight Tasks for an ICT-based Economic Turnaround” in an effort to envisage the future of the Internet and seek future changes.
According to KISA’s 2045 Internet @ Human Society Research Group (hereafter referred to as the 2045 Group), the Eight Tasks for an ICT-based Economic Turnaround are as follows: 1) Transitioning into consistent, efficient administrative and legal systems that spur on creativity and innovation, 2)Expanding market-centered cooperation systems that encourage openness, cooperation, sharing and communication, 3) Establishing ICT management leadership for securing future competitiveness, 4) Developing and commercializing ICTs that can appeal to the global market, 5) Nurturing interdisciplinary talent with practical skills to raise industrial competitiveness in the era of hyper-connectivity, 6) Fostering a user-driven Internet security culture, 7) Paradigm shift to “ICTization of the economy” from “economization of ICTs,” and 8) Developing a venture ecosystem that promotes the creation of startups and supports sustainable growth.
The eights tasks hae been selected through consultations with the members of the 2045 Group and various experts (e.g. lawyers, entrepreneurs, investors, etc.). The 2045 Group is comprised of officials from KISA and 13 experts in law and institutions, including Han Sang-ki, head of the Institute of Social Computing, Choi Jae-hong, professor at Gangneung-Wonju National University and Hong Joon-hyung, professor at Seoul National University.
“Making efforts to move forward with the eight tasks is a prerequisite to turning around the Korean economy on the basis of ICTs,” said Professor Hong Joon-hyung.
