AUSTIN, TEXAS, January 28, 2009—In the midst of economic turmoil, 2009 will be a year of change and challenges for the display industry. After experiencing double-digit growth for six consecutive years, the segment experienced a dramatic slowdown in 2008 as it matured. Surviving the economic slump and planning properly for a market recovery will be the top issue most display-related companies will face in 2009.

Kicking off DisplaySearch’s 11th Annual US Flat Panel Display (USFPD) Conference, keynotes fromScott Birnbaum, Senior Vice President of Samsung, and Paul SemenzaDisplaySearch Senior Vice President, will take a closer look at how the economy has impacted the display industry, and what factors will be critical for continued growth in coming years. CNBC analyst and Infectious Greed editorDr. Paul Kedrosky will deliver the Day 2 keynote, sharing his outlook of the economy after the financial crisis.

“2008 was the beginning of a new era of maturity for the flat panel display industry, and we have begun 2009 with many unanswered questions about this segment’s future outlook,” noted Semenza. “Whether it’s learning more about the driving factors of the slowed growth, about which market segments have the most growth potential in 2009 or about how supply/demand dynamics have altered, our USFPD Conference—the only US display conference of its kind this year—will provide attendees with the critical information and industry interaction they need to succeed in 2009.”

State of the New World
During his presentation for the USFPD Conference opening session, Paul Semenza will provide an overview of DisplaySearch's outlook for the display industry in 2009 and beyond, covering key technologies and applications and analyzing the nature of this unusual cycle.

Vidification: Extending the Movie Experience Everywhere
Mr. Birnbaum will discuss the vidification of displays—the shift to widescreen throughout different screen sizes and applications. His presentation will show how technology is moving with incredible speed to further blur the lines between computer and TV viewing, bringing a new level of refinement in the move toward converging mediums. As part of this discussion, he will address the implications of this trend for both display providers and consumers.

The New Normal: The Global Economic Outlook After The Financial Crisis
Dr.
Kedrosky will provide his economic outlook and discuss ways businesses can survive in challenging times. Economic markers that will enable participants to gauge when there might be a turnaround in the economy will also be highlighted.

DisplaySearch’s 11th Annual USFPD Conference, called “It’s a New World, Are You Part of It” will be held March 2-4, 2009 at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines, in San Diego, California. The event will focus on all major and emerging flat panel display applications, as well as key components and materials related to the supply chain.
