Samsung Electronics agreed to pay Apple a compensation for damages arising from Samsung’s infringement on the latter’s patents.
The legal fight, however, is expected to continue for the time being. Depending on the result of the lawsuits, there is a potential that Samsung could get reimbursement of some or all of the compensation money.
According to federal court in San Jose, California, Samsung Electronics and Apple submitted a document detailing the payment of the compensation to the U.S. District Court Judge Lucy Koh on December 3.
Apple sent an invoice to Samsung Electronics to ask the US$548-million compensation. Samsung Electronics is scheduled to pay the amount by December 14. The payment came in four years and eight months after Samsung and Apple launched their patent dispute. The Federal Appeals Court made the ruling in May 2015.
Samsung plans to bring the case to the Supreme Court. A Samsung official said, “We will continue to pursue appropriate legal procedures regardless of this payment.”
