Hyundai Sonata's powertrain was picked as the world's top 10 engine for two straight years by American auto media on Thursday. The U.S. automobile media Wardsauto selected powertrain equipped in Sonata Plug-in Hybrid as "2016 Wards 10 Best Engines," according to the local car maker.
 
Last year, Hyundai Tucson fuel cell electric vehicle's powertrain was selected as "2015 Top 10 engine" for the first time in the world, beating other global hybrid cars.
 
Industry watchers said the firm’s recognition in the hybrid sector may raise the brand's value and boost its eco-friendly car sales. 
Hyundai joined the top 10 list a total of six times to date including Tau engine listed for three consecutive years from 2009 to 2011, Gamma engine in 2012 and hydrogen fuel cells, demonstrating its high-quality powertrain technology in the global market.
