Vodafone, Telefonica, Verizon Wireless, ORANGE, NTTdocomo, Nokia, and Ericsson have all mounted KOTRA's glowing chariot to meet the Korean mobile telecommunication companies from November 10-12 at the COEX Intercontinental Hotel. Here, about 110 mobile telecommunication companies will be gathered from all around the world to do business and make business.

Gate Opens to Welcome the Chariot

The global mobile telecommunication market today is an arena of brutal competition to create a new telecommunications standard. GMV 2009 suggests that the forum must rain on the seeds before that issue fully blooms.

On the first day of the GMV 2009, KOTRA and the Korea Information and Communication Society will open the Wireless Convergence Forum 2009. Under the theme Next Generation Multimedia Communication, repre sentative speakers from SK Telecom, KT, Samsung Electronics, Verizon Wireless, GSM Association, Ericsson, Qualcomm, LG Nortel, and Microsoft will each interpret the global trend of the current mobile telecommunications industry.

The business meetings and presentations from global venture capitals like Altos Ventures, Intel Capital, Asset Management, and SBI Group are also scheduled for the companies with cutting-edge mobile technology that are seeking for financial supports.

The actual buyer meeting will follow the forum to be held from the 11th to the 12th. About 60 highly competitive Korean mobile telecommunication companies including Cmotech, GS Instrument, Solid Technologies, Insprit, and SK C&C will carry on 780 business meetings.

Radiance to Light up Wide Expanse of Event Hall

About 40 mobile telecommunication entrepreneurs and 120 global mobile telecommunication companies will gather from 30 different countries at GMV 2009. Here they will be able to check out the latest technologies of domestic mobile phones, mobile communication network devices, mobile platforms, WiBro, DMB, and software through one to one business meetings.

Just to carry on the direct business meeting opportunities, each country's national leading mobile communication enterprises claimed to be present at GMV 2009. Telkomsel of Indonesia, Turkcel of Turkey, AIS of Taiwan, Smart Communication of the Philippines, EVNT of Vietnam, Polkomtel of Poland, Mobily of Saudi Arabia and Pelephone of Israel are only a few of many more to be noted.

The top mobile device and equipment companies will be present too. Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Lenovo, Alcatel-lucent, Telcordia, Hitachi and Fujitsu shared their thrill to fully discuss and collaborate with the domestic telecommunication companies with competitive wireless technology. The collaboration is the key to the success of 4G.

Regarding the technological standardization of 4G mobile telecommunication WiBro, LTE, and wireless telecommunication technologies are all competing for hegemony. Here, the visit of the companies like UQ Communication from Japan and Kulacom from Jordan are quite significant since they have successfully provided WiBro services overseas. Another domestic technology is T-DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting). French company TDF and Norwegian company NM-TV have both announced their intent to commercialize their mobile broadcasting service with Korean technology T-DMB. They are also attending the GMV 2009 to carry on heavy discussions with service providers in Korea.

"The fact that the visit of each country's top mobile communications companies being gathered at Korea all at once in this scale itself proves proves how far domestic mobile telephone technology has come," Director General of KOTRA IT Convergence Industry department, Yoon Hyo-choon continued, "We hope to further develop Global Mobile Vision as an international exhibiton for mobile telecommunication."

GMV 2009 is significant in a sense that it is the first time in the country's history to open a specialized international mobile forum and buyer's meetings. The event is expected to play an important role as a bridge to connect the major telecommunication companies of 40 different countries with many domestic companies with cutting-edge technology.

"GMV is the grand fair that gives equal chance to all mobile telecommunication companies regardless of their size or capitals. Any domestic companies with an asset of cutting-edge technology are welcome to come and meet the other nation's top mobile telecommunication companies," said Director General Yoon Hyo-choon.

A Collection of Purposes

Verizon Wireless, America

Mr.Aditya Khurjekar, director of New Business Development at Verizon Wireless said, "We are now the first ranked telecommunication company in America with the record of 31.4% market penetration. We are looking for the new service partners to create a new business. Since differentiation is big in America, We wouldn't mind to work with a technology that is not necessarily big in the market already, which will require a technological collaboration and make both companies the winner. To sum it up, we hope to find Korean companies who can bring the revolution to the previous Verizon services."

Telefonica, Spain

"Telefonica is the leading telecommunications operator in the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking world that currently provides services to 260 million subscribers in 25 countries. We seek to find the companies to work in partnership in the subjects of mobile contents, applications, and mobile assistant devices, said Antonio Schuh, director of Partnership Development at Telefonica.

Vodafone, Germany/Netherlands/Australia

Mr. Peter Weingart represents Vodafone Germany and stated, "Vodafone is meeting the satisfaction of 300 million subscribers in 31 countries around the world. Now with the merge of the company Arcor, the second-largest fixed phone line provider in Germany, our service area has expanded. Three directors from Germany, Netherlands, and Australia base are visiting GMV 2009 with three different goals: finding good partners to sign technical collaboration, discovering the new area of mobile software, and sourcing brand new mobile phones."

NTTdocomo, Japan

Director Hajime Muto and Yoshihito Sugiyama will visit GMV 2009 from NTTdocomo, the Japanese number one telephone operator. Director Sugiyama stated, "Since the succession of commercializing WCDMA, 85% of our subscribers are 3G users. We hope to strengthen our 3G network to reshape our profit structure with the help of a new solution to change our service from voice-oriented to data-oriented. Since the future trend lies in Smartphone, our meetings will be focused on meeting Smartphone related companies to further discuss about the mobile data cards and mobile solution for businesses. The embedded mobile phone solutions for vending machines or automobiles are also the other area we are specifically in search of finding a good partners."

Ericsson, Sweden

As the world-leading supplier in telecommunication, Ericsson seeks to meet wireless-data modem related enterprises at GMV 2009 wince our new vision involves the wireless local data telecommunication. "We are open to Korean small and medium sized companies that are actively progressing related business. We hope to find the company that can discuss about a variety of subjects in depth sharing views and experiences regarding to the subjects of mobile device product roadmaps for WCDAM/HSPA, and next generation information exchange and LTE business models," said Director Eric Jelmhag.
