
[November 6, 2009] Seoul, Korea - Merck Advanced Technologies Ltd. (President: Mr. Juergen Koenig), the Korean affiliate of Merck KGaA of Germany, held a "Merck LC Insight 2009" seminar on November 5 at the Millennium Seoul Hilton, Seoul, Korea.
Since the 1990s, the Merck global LC seminar has been held annually in Germany, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. In this year, the 10th LC seminar was held in Japan on October 27, Taiwan on November 3, and Korea on November 5.
During the seminar, Merck presented special materials for photovoltaic and lighting applications, opening up opportunities in these industries with a convincing product portfolio. However, liquid crystals will remain Merck's main business in the display field during the next 10 years. This year, six experts from Germany and the UK were invited by industry and academia to introduce new LC materials for display application, novel LC materials for displays that include new LC materials as well as OLEDs, RM (Reactive Mesogens), flexible lighting displays, and photovolotaics.
Merck presented its extensive know-how and manufacturing expertise together with the most advanced process technology not only to mature TFT LCD panel makers LG Display, SEC, SMD and Hydis but also to new business industry manufacturers such as ShinHwa intertek, HyoSung, LG Chem and Dong-woo Fine-Chem etc.
In Korea, Merck leads the industry with its continuous R&D and M&S activities. It was again given an opportunity to show its technology leadership to industry experts at the seminar following the IMID conference held in October. Merck is recognized as a long-term leader focusing on core LC technology of chemical materials in Korea and a major contributor to the Korean display industry.
