The head of Convergence WiBro Business Unit Lee Kyung-soo made a presentation on KT's WiBro Business Plan at GMV 2009. He started off by explaining the market trends and their customers. Currently, people can use the Internet from various different places. Korea has the capability for almost everyone to access high speed Internet. KT has invested more than W150 billion (US$130 million) to set up a WiBro service network and expand wireless mobile broadband services after merging with KTF.

KT WiBro is the leader in mobile broadband services taking 54.9% of the market share. The majority of WiBro subscribers use netbooks or USB dongles. The growth of the netbook market has been remarkable. Since 2007, the number of netbook users increased rapidly due to the netbook's compact size, mobility, lower power usage, and low price.

KT has a business strategy known as the 3W plan. This plan includes the improved wireless services of WIBRO, WCDMA, and WiFi. Seamless wireless services across three different networks provide better services for consumers. KT recently released the FMC service, which allows cell phone users to use WiFi networks for voice service at a cheaper rate. More services can be provided by integrating wireless networks. By 2010, KT's WiBro will cover 75% of the total population in Korea.

Using WiBro technology, KT has many new services and applications to satisfy consumers. WiBro Telematics provides not only basic services like vehicle safety services, vehicle management services and Internet connections, but also options like car navigation, m-IPTV and car portal services. WiBro-Shipyard is used as wireless data communication at the shipbuilding plant of Hyundai Heavy Industries. Also, WiBro-Navigator, Egg Taxi, and WiBro e-Book services are available.

The global vision and adoption of KT is to expand the network by deployment of new networks in other countries and through global roaming. KT is the global alliance for mobile WiMAX operators and plans to be a Mobile/Convergence window for business and consumers.
