The firm said it would end the photo service on Feb. 17. So, the users, who saved their photos in the album service, should back up the data by Apr. 20.
The Kakao album, unveiled in February of 2013, allows users to share their photos taken through smartphones with friends real-time and to make an album together. But, it failed to secure competitiveness to vie with global social network services such as Instagram.
"Since the album service has not provided distinguished value to many users, we decided to end the service after long consideration," Kakao's official said.
The Kakao Hello, which was also ambitiously launched in August, will be run until Jan. 19. The service allows users to manage photo books and to automatically notify their friends when their phone number changes.
The service appeared to fare will, garnering 500,000 users within a month it was launched, but its growth has since slowed without unveiling any distinguished service from its rivals.
