Uber, the world’s largest car sharing service company, plans to launch a high-end call taxi service “Uber Black” in Korea. Uber Black is expected to compete with Kakao Taxi Black which was launched in November 2015.
Uber Korea announced on January 19 that it would launch a high-end call taxi service Uber Black in Seoul. Just like Kakao Taxi Black, Uber Black would allow users to call a luxury sedan to come to a location they want by using a smartphone app.
The basic fare will be set at 8,000 won, 2.5 times higher than that of regular taxis and 1.5 times higher than that of existing call taxis.
Uber Black will use a high-end sedan K9 in collaboration with Kia Motors. Compared to Kakao Taxi Black (100 units), Uber Black will use only a few scores of taxis, with its service coverage being limited to some downtown areas in Seoul, including Gangnam, Seocho, Itaewon, and Gwanghwamun.
Uber Korea plans to increase its service coverage throughout the entire part of Seoul in the near future.
