The Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning Announced on January 22, it will determine whether to license the country's fourth mobile operator next week, after months of deliberation on candidates.
The three candidates, Sejong Telecom, K Mobile, and Quantum Mobile, passed an initial government assessment in November 2015. A fourth mobile operator is expected to increase competition on the local market, which is currently served by SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus.
The Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning has set up a special committee of 16 experts that will assess the candidates' service, financial, and technology capabilities, along with their plans to protect users' privacy.
