Samsung Electronics retained its No.1 title in smartphone sales, beating its rival Apple, according to a research firm Strategy Analytics. SA said on Thursday Samsung sold a total of 81 million units in the fourth quarter of last year in the global smartphone market.
The sales increased by around 6 million units from the same period of the previous year thanks to the increased sales of its budget smartphones instead of premium models such as Galaxy S6 or Galaxy Note5.
Samsung accounted for 20.1 percent in the global smartphone market with Apple grabbing 18.5 percent selling 74 million units, with an increase sales of 300,000 units.
Came in third was Chinese tech giant Huawei, whose smartphone sales hit 100 million units for the first this year.
