China’s auto industry started voicing against the Chinese government’s decision not to give subsidies for electric buses which are mounted with nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) batteries produced mainly by LG Chem and Samsung SDI.
The background behind the industry’s opposition to the Chinese government’s new policy is that a substantial number of Chinese auto makers are now engaged in the production of the NCM-type electric buses. Under these circumstances, if the government stops providing subsidies for NCM-type electric buses, it could deal a major blow not only to the Korean NCM battery makers but also the Chinese car makers.
The Economic Observer reported on February 3 that scores of Chinese auto makers and auto parts suppliers are preparing to deliver their opposition against the Chinese government’s latest decision on electric car subsidies. The weekly newspaper added that as many as 100 Chinese companies and individuals are expected to participate in this campaign, including Beijing Automotive, Geely, Nanjing Jinlong, and JAC.
