LG Electronics' chief Cho Joon-ho showed his confidence in its marquee smartphone G5 during his speech at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Feb. 24 local time.
The chief said, "G5 is a product rolled out after pondering over LG's unique value," adding, "We realized from G4 that there is a limit to emphasizing better sides compared to leading manufactures. So, we decided to find out our own value which Apple and Samsung do not have."
He also said, "We gained confidence after V10 sold more than we expected in Korea, Hong Kong and the U.S.," adding, "So, we were able to take on bolder challenges based on the popularity."
Cho said the differentiated value of G5 is "entertaining." G5 enables users to change its module by opening the bottom of the device and it can be integrated with other devices.
"If you connect LG Cam plus or LG HiFi plus into G5, you can use smartphones as digital camera or music player," he said.
"We have long pondered over how to realize the idea into reality and we gain confidence while we were making G5."
For Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S7, which was unveiled on the same day, he said, "It is okay because we go in a different direction."
