Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) said on April 5 that it will join forces with SK Telecom, the nation's top mobile carrier, to get ICT-based renewable projects off the ground.

The two companies have set up a KEPCO-SKT cooperation center in Naju, located in mid-western Jeollanam-do. The two companies plan to sink a total of 500 billion won into electric vehicle charging stations and smart city projects by 2020.

They will also develop wireless charging technology and vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) technologies, which enable the wireless exchange of critical safety and operational data (e.g. traffic and weather and road conditions) between vehicles and roadway infrastructure.

A KEPCO official said: “The top two companies in their respective areas will jointly develop smart city technologies, intelligent driving technologies for EVs and additional services and will nurture relevant industries.”
