Samsung Group said on April 7 that it had selected a total of 33 research projects for the first half of this year in the areas of basic science, materials technology and ICTs in order to develop technologies for the future.
Since Samsung kicked off its Future Technology Promotion Project back in August 2013, Samsung has selected and funded a total of 231 research projects.
In the area of basic science, 16 research projects have been selected, including Seoul National University Prof. Hong Soon-hyeok’s research on ‘sustainable synthesis of amino acids: How the Miller–Urey experiment demonstrated synthesis of organic compounds.’
In the area of materials technology, eight research projects -- including Hanyang University Prof. Jung Jae-kyung’s research on high-mobility, transparent p-type oxide semiconductors – have made the list.
In the area of ICTs, nine research projects will be funded, including Yonsei University Prof. Lee In-kwon’s ‘research on multimedia contents’ abstract style control leveraging the characteristics of machine learning.’
