On November 26, 2009, Korea Digital Communications (KDC) was awarded Korea's IT Innovation Gold Award at Seoul's Yangjae L Tower. This award is sponsored by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and Korea's National IT Industry Promotion Agency. The award is a combination of both the Korea e-Business Gold Award and the Digital Knowledge Management Gold Award and is considered the most honorable award in the Korean IT industry.
KDC was founded in 1972 and has constantly been one of the top companies in IT enterprise. In 2004, they created a 3D industry to catch up with new trends and next generation technology. At first, many of KDC's industry partners had no interest in 3D, but KDC set a company goal of Real 3D Images. Through their efforts, they were able to supply a 3D theater image system to Hollywood and commercialize 3D cellphones in Japan. Currently, they are working on solutions for 3D image broadcasting, PMP, and games.
During the 3rd quarter of 2009, KDC made sales of 1.7 million dollars (20 billion won) in the 3D image business including sales of 320 3D theatre equipment sets. The operating income has increased 2002% since last year.
Kim Tae-sub, the Chairman of KDC, stated, "3D technology is a driving force of IT industry creating new values in electronic, information, telecommunications, cultural and educational industries. We have accomplished annual growth of 300% by stepping ahead of competitors in the 3D image business. By 2010, we will reach 30 million dollars (300 billion won) in sales just from the 3D image business."
