According to industry watchers, top four major telecom companies - Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint, and T Mobile - are competing to attract more customers by offering eye-catching discounts for Galaxy S7 and G5. Interestingly, the telecom companies are offering bigger benefits to those who purchase a Galaxy S7 than those who buy a G5
AT&T says it will give a 48-inch Samsung TV as a freebie to Galaxy S7 buyers if they subscribe to the carrier’s satellite TV service. Samsung Electronics is also proceeding an aggressive "1 + 1" Galaxy S7 marketing campaign, which provides consumers who buy a Galaxy S7 handset with one additional unit for free. This move is interpreted as a strategy to keep its rival LG Electronics in check in the U.S. market.
On the other hand, U.S. telecom companies are offering relatively passive marketing strategies on LG G5 even LG has maintained a NO. 3 spot in the market following Apple and Samsung. In case of Verizon, it provides free battery packs, worth US$35 and offer US$100 discounts on the G5 for customers who buy LG’s Watch Urbane Second Edition.
LG expects its U.S. market share to rise further. However, the defense strategy of Samsung Electronics which released the Galaxy S7 series on March 20 is also strong enough to keep its leading presence there, signaling stiffer competition among the two Korean companies for a higher share in the American smartphone market.
