The action-packed ad for the LG G5 modular smartphone is catching on with viewers. It racked up nearly 15 million views on Facebook, Google Play, Instagrm and YouTube.
The LG G5 topped the best-selling smartphone list in the first week of April, according to market research firm Atlas Research & Consulting.
It is said that LG has thus far pulled its punches in advertizing its products so that the company has failed to effectively communicate the excellence of its products. Thus, many people kept an eye on how LG would set about touting the G5 this time. When it comes to the G5 ad campaign, LG’s marketing team might breathe a sigh of relief.
First of all, the G5 commercial has succeeded in intriguing viewers. It is very difficult to depict the excellence of a product in a minute-long spot. Thus, producing a curiosity-arousing commercial will guarantee half the success. The G5 TV commercial was directed by Fredrik Bond, who also directed commercials for big brands like Facebook and Heineken.
Who’s the quirky and funny guy
Watching the G5 TV commercial which is as visually arresting as any Hollywood action movie trailer, several thoughts came across my mind. It was bizarre, funny, intriguing and memorable. Above all, I wanted to know about the guy taking on multiple roles in the commercial. I googled him. He was Hollywood superstar Jason Statham.
Though he is only 175 cm tall, he worked as a model thanks to his great muscular body. The British model-turned-action-star's chiseled features and his "hard man" roles in numerous action films have set him apart from other actors. Inspired by the action stars who never had stunt doubles and fight doubles like Jackie Chan, Jason Statham does nearly all his own stunts. Jason Statham is best known for his roles in Hollywood blockbusters like Transformers and The Fast and the Furious.
How many Jason Stathams are there in the ad
Then, how many Jason Stathams do you see in the commercial I found at least 10 Jason Stathams after watching it over 10 times. I am not that sharp-sightedly, so I cannot say exactly how many.
Throughout the minute-long spot, Jason Statham is everywhere, swapping faces. Jason Statham is trying to enjoy his G5 on a crowded subway, but is surrounded by three other Stathams trying to sneak a look -- the bespectacled Statham with shoulder-length wavy dark brown hair sitting right next to Jason Statham; another bespectacled Statham with long gray hair; and the baldy. Don’t miss his clone with a Mohawk hairstyle also sitting on the train. Suddenly, his two lookalikes -- the bespectacled Statham with long gray hair and the baldy -- burst off of the train and onto the platform in a sword fight involving umbrellas. Another Statham wearing a blue jean shirt is standing right next to the door. Yet another Statham wearing a knitted gray hat is watching the brawl on the platform. Among the crowd is a blonde wearing a gray skirt suit and holding coffee, who is also played by Statham. Then, Jason Statham comes out of the subway exit. (Let’s take a breather here.)
Jason Statham takes the plunge in a stripy, plunging blouse, dancing in the middle of the street. A female diner (Jason Statham) wearing a pearl necklace and sitting at a window-side table is filming Jason Statham dancing while another bearded lady (Statham) is flipping through a menu book at the same table. Let’s cut to a bank heist, where Jason Statham is wearing a mask of his own face whilst holding up a room full of his doppelgangers: the female bank teller, the security guard wearing a VR headset and one of the customers lying face down on the floor while fidgeting with his G5 near a Rolling Bot. In the following high-octane stunts, Jason Statham is riding on top of a charging herd of bulls, wielding a pair of fire extinguishers. Lastly, two Stathams wearing a black helmet are riding on the same motorcycle. Of course, Jason Statham also plays passer-bys and bystanders in the scenes.
The more you watch, the more Stathams you will find. Maybe it’s easier to find who is not portrayed by Jason Statham.
I wonder how many people can give the right answer to the question: Exactly how many Stathams are there What about giving a prize to the first person who nails it I personally think that it could be as exciting as Where's Wally If you feel intrigued, you can watch the G5 commercial at www.youtube.com/user/LGMobileHQ.
What’s the music in the background
“What’s the title of the music playing in the background It’s fun, too,” a netizen wrote.
The catchy background music is also engaging, immersing viewers in the world of Stathams, the G5 and its modular Friends. It is “Everybody Move” by Busy Signal, a Jamaican dancehall reggae artist. It is a remix of Japanese vocaloid producer Otomania’s remake of the Finnish folk tune Ievan Polkka. The Japanese vocaloid character Hatsune Miku sings Ievan Polkka, twirling Welsh onion, so the song is nicknamed the ‘Welsh onion-twirling song.’
