On April 14, LG Electronics unveiled the K7 and K10 in India, describing them as ‘made in India, true 4G’ LTE smartphones. The LG K7 features a 5.0-inch, 854x480 resolution display; Snapdragon 210 processor; 1.5GB RAM; 5 megapixel front and rear camera; LTE; Android 5.1; and 2125mAh battery.
The LG K10 has a 5.3-inch 1280×720 resolution display, Snapdragon 410 processor and 2GB RAM. It comes with an 8 megapixel front-facing camera, a 13 megapixel rear camera and a 2300mAh battery. It is powered by Android 5.1. The K10 is also an LTE smartphone.
The K7 and K10 go for $142 and $202, respectively. The K10 and K7 made their public debut at CES 2016 and went on sale first in S. Korea in January. Since then, they have been hitting stores gradually in Europe, Latin America, the US and Asia.
LG Electronics India, a wholly owned subsidiary of LG Electronics, had signed an agreement with GDN Enterprises, a smartphone maker headquartered in Noida, Uttar Pradesh State of India, to manufacture smartphones at GDN Enterprises’ production facilities. Since then LG Electronics India has started producing smartphone prototypes with manufacturing equipment shipped from S. Korea.
Though LG manufactured 2G feature phones at plants in Noida and Pune, India, this is the first time for the company to mass-produce smartphones in India specifically targeting the Indian market.
