S. Korean victims of deadly humidifier disinfectants filed a complaint against eight board members of British consumer goods company Reckitt Benckiser (RB).
Victims and family members held a press conference on May 2 and told reporters that 84 victims and bereaved families filed a complaint with the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office against eight RB directors, including CEO Rakesh Kapoor, alleging that they committed murder, abetted murder and tucked away evidence.
They argued: “Reckitt Benckiser should be held accountable for its South Korean unit selling disinfectants containing polyhexamethylene guanidine (PHMG).” They urged RB to explain why the company did not apply to South Korea the Biocidal Products Directive (BPD), which the EU has put in place since 1998.
Mentioning that Oxy RB is found to have paid university research teams to doctor test results in favor of the company, they said: “The British headquarters may have orchestrated the cover up.”
