On December 13, 2009, KT announced that they successfully constructed WiBro service for the public's use in Rwanda. This feat was accomplished at Rwanda's capital city, Kigali, which marked the first time in Africa that WiBro has been accessible.
At this event, KT also displayed their real-time internet service and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service. They also announced that their WiBro speed rates are 5.5 Mbps and 2 Mbps. The total cost of this project was estimated to be around US$7.66 million.
People present at this event included representatives from the Rwanda Development Board-Information Technology (RDB-IT); Meng Soo-ho, Director of KT's Global Enterprise, Nyirishema, CEO of(Gara RDB; and the Chief of Gatare Rwanda ICT.
Meng Soo-ho, director of KT's Global Enterprise, stated, "KT is working to create global enterprises with other African countries. At this point, Rwanda and Algeria certain, and other African countries that we are looking into include Kenya and Tanzania."
