LG Innotek, a Korean electronic component manufacturer, said on July 18 that it has won the 2015 General Motors Supplier Quality Excellence Award.
The GM Supplier Quality Excellence Award has been annually handed out to GM’s best-of-the-best global suppliers for delivering ‘zero-defect’ products.
Since 2010 LG Innotek has been supplying GM with battery management systems (BMS). The BMS is a key component of EVs that manages the charging, discharging, efficiency and lifespan of batteries.
Over the past decade, LG Innotek’s R&D, production, product quality and marketing divisions have strived to develop their specialty in auto parts.
LG Innotek already obtained the ISO/TS16949 certification (the automotive industry standard for quality production) in 2004 and ASPICE (Automotive Software Process Improvement and Capability dEtermination) in 2014.
To control product quality, LG Innotek has offered all the employees special training courses on Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and a quality-oriented mindset. In particular, LG Innotek has been encouraging employees to become internationally certified quality assurance experts by obtaining the CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) and CRE (Certified Reliability Engineer) certifications.
LG Innotek’s auto parts business notched up 649.6 billion won in sales last year, up 22 percent from the previous year. LG Innotek supplies 20 different types of automotive parts, including automotive motors, sensors, camera modules, wireless communication modules, wireless charging modules, touch panels, LEDs and EV parts (e.g. BMS, DC-to-DC converters).
