South Korea's largest mobile operator, SK Telecom (SKT), said on July 27 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Israel-based 3D sensor developer Inuitive to develop solutions based on augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies.
SKT plans to merge its AR/VR platform “T-Real” with Inuitive’s 3D sensors to create devices that can detect movements and 3D objects in 3D space.
The two companies are expected to develop solutions for converting virtual contents into 3D contents.
Unlike other existing sensors that require separate processors for the processing of 3D data and recognition of objects, Inuitive’s 3D sensors ensure that the same job can be down with a single processor.
The two companies plan to give priority to developing solutions for small electronic devices like mobile phones.
Since 2010 SKT has continued to develop AR•VR technologies. SKT unveiled AR platform ‘T-AR’ in 2014 and AR•VR platform ‘T-Real’ in 2016.
