Mr. Park (CEO) was sentenced to 1 year probation and Mr. Sim(co-founder) of DOF Inc. was condemned to 1 year and 6 months' imprisonment as directed by the Unfair Competition Prevention and Trade Secret Protection Act.
On August 11, 2016, the Judge of the Seoul Central District Court confirmed the two Defendants a guilty of professional malpractice under the Unfair Competition Prevention and Trade Secret Protection Act. The Judge sentenced that "It is affirmed the judgment of conviction to Mr. Sim for a term of 1 year and 6 months against the leakage and usage of Medit products' source code and the defendants placed on parole were under court custody because of possibility of escape.
Park and Sim, who worked for 10 years for Medit, was charged with the unjust enrichment approximately millions of US Dollar with operating DOF Inc. by stealing the core technology, trade secrets, and hiring the executives and staff members of Medit.
It is known that the civil lawsuit for prohibiting the sales of scanners manufactured by DOF Inc. will begin and the other companies in the same industry has attention to the progress of this lawsuit.
