On December 16, the Samsung Economic Research Institute (SERI) disclosed a survey of its 11,538 online readers on the top ten hit items of the year 2009. Its 11,538 online readers were asked to pick 10 of 52 items handpicked by the research institute.
Seven thousand LED TVs were sold during the first two weeks of its launch, thanks to its discriminately effective value and successful marketing. LED TVs have taken the TV market by storm, coming in fourth on the list of the top ten hit products.
Smart phones are ranked fifth. Other hit products include Makgeoli (a traditional Korean alcoholic beverage); flu-themed products such as surgical masks and sanitizers; Kim Yu-na, the 19-year-old figure-skater extraordinaire; ''Queen Seondeok,'' a television drama; pop girl groups, walking tour traveling products; and small-to-mid-sized apartments dubbed ''bogeum jari''.
