Oracle, the world's largest database management software providing company, plans to set up a data center in Korea to create a stronger presence in the Korean cloud service market.

Kim Hyun-rae, CEO of Oracle Korea, said, "We will start to establish a data center in Korea within this year and take stronger initiatives in making investment in Korea."

Oracle runs 19 data centers around the world, including four in the Asia-Pacific region such as in China, in Singapore and two in Australia. Oracle aims to add three more data centers including one in Korea.

Kim said, "We increased the number of our payrolls in cloud computing by 100 in the fiscal year 2015 and plan to add 100 more this year."

He added, "Major conglomerates operate their own data centers. Given this in mind, it will be more effective for us to focus on the strategy of enabling them to use their existing resources."
