Merck signed MOU with IFEZ for supportive relationship to promote the development

Incheon, South Korea, November 14, 2016 - Merck Korea (Managing Director: Dr. Michael Grund), a leading science and technology company, will be signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) to work together in good faith toward a mutually supportive relationship to promote the continued development and growth of the biotechnology industry of the Republic of Korea this afternoon.

This relationship includes research on biopharmaceutical process, logistics service, investment on production facilities. Following MOU, IFEZ will provide support for Merck’s investment to IFEZ, while Merck will expand investment activities for biotechnology in IFEZ with an aim to double its life science revenue by 2025. Details of Merck’s investment plan including new jobs to be created will be finalized by 2020.

On October 6, Merck inaugurated an M Lab™ Collaboration Center in the Songdo district of Incheon, Korea, one of the fastest growing biotech hubs in Asia. The center provides biopharmaceutical manufacturers with a shared, exploratory environment where they can closely collaborate with Merck scientists and engineers to solve their toughest challenges and accelerate development and production of new therapies.

With 1,865 square meters of space and more than ten highly trained scientists and engineers, the M Lab™ Collaboration Center replaces a smaller facility in Pangyo and will better suit the needs of Korea’s growing biopharmaceutical market. The new M Lab™ Collaboration Center The new, state-of-the-art center will include a simulated manufacturing environment and offer full end-to-end process development support.

In addition, education on best practices and new approaches to develop, optimize and scale-up processes and simplify global technology transfer will be available to customers. Customers have access to sizing and simulation tools and methodologies as well as analytical and modeling support. Formal bioprocessing educational courses are also available, including traditional classroom-style training and interactive, hands-on sessions.
