Toyota Prius

This year, when looking back, environmental issues caught our attention the most; hurricane Katrina and other natural disasters have left a deep-cut wound to many refugees until today. Such sacrifices have alerted the world's awareness about climate change and other environmental problems. On the 27th, CNN has reported on top ten environmental developments from 2000 to 2009; this news report categorizes the most conspicuous environmental moments of these past years in a short, but full way that is eye-catching.

Al Gore

Toyota's hybrid vehicle, Prius, have earned its' name 'the game-changer' for breaking the conventional wisdom of hybrid cars and stimulated other manufacturers to follow suit on producing more eco-friendly cars. Despite its' high cost, Prius gained a world-wide recognition for its' fuel efficiency. Furthermore, more than one million purchased Prius and thus, it made a statement about the environment. The summit in Copenhagen, Denmark involved not only the world's leaders, but also many people who care about the environment and future emission cuts. There were some miscommunications between talks among the parties gathered in the Danish capital, but it heralded the beginning of an era of eco-friendly.

Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs

The third on the list is Al Gore's film, 'An Inconvenient Truth'. This film/documentary runs for 100 minute that is based on a simple power-point. However, it is breathtaking for alerting people's attention on climate change and its' tremendous effects on humanity. This film, ultimately, won the Nobel Peace Prize on 2007. Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs (CFLs) brought green into people's homes. Despite much criticism of high cost and inefficient performance, CFLs' sales have reached record heights worldwide in 2007.
