The winner takes it all. As it sounds cold-hearted as it is the reality embraces the best. Following the semiconductor and LCD, Samsung now gulps the flat screen TV market. Instead of getting discouraged by last year's economic stagnation, both Samsung and LG Electronics took advantage of the weak market and ironically increased their market share and this time they are targeting an increase of 30 percent in sales rate. They are to build an empire that has the most preeminent LED and 3D TV that are beyond a flat screen category. According to their plan, the combined TV market share of Samsung and LG will hit 90 percent this year, emerging as the great success in digital TV.

Display Forecast (Source: Display Search)

Samsung Electronics plans to sell thirty-nine million flat screens this year; specifically, ten million LED TVs, thirty-five million LCD TVs and four million PDP TVs. Samsung has not explicitly state the number for 3D TVs but they set the goal to two million. In contrast, LG Electronics president, Kang Shin-ik stated at the CES conference that they are to sell twenty-five million LCD TVs, four million PDP TVs, thus a total of twenty-nine million TVs. These statistics outnumber last year's sales by ten million. Also, LG Electronics promises to get rid of six million LED TV s this year. Thus, altogether, Samsung and LG Electronics’ combined market share will dominate 90 percent of the domestic market share and 60 percent of 3D TV market.
