
Lee Kun-hee, a former chairman of Samsung Electronics, visited 'CES 2010' which is his first public appearance since his resignation in April, 2008. He deliberately said on the January 9 to the reporters, “Japan will not catch up to Samsung Electronics." He also went on to say, "He is not intimidated by other companies', such as Sony and Panasonic to outpace them to the question of them gnashing their teeth waiting for the opportunity to rise above.”
Mr. Lee bothered to self-visit the exhibition and listened carefully to Choi Ji-sung, Samsung's CEO, and Yoon Boo-geun's explanation of each product that are displayed. Mr. Lee, not only listened, but gave upfront message on improving the products technique. He also saw the Sony, Panasonic, LG and other Electronic giants' booths to get a grip on the most up to date IT trends. He tried on 3D glasses and commented that the temple bows on the glasses should be the part that supports the main structure and the most flexible area to provide a comfortable feeling. In addition, Mr. Lee asked whether the gold frame that patterns around LED TV is safe to children and what harmful effects it might have on children.
For the future of Samsung Electronics, Mr. Lee said, "That it is a long way to go for such creation of new department and expansion of business must be dealt with great caution and long preparation." He added on saying that he will also discover ways to improve the future of the firm and made sure that R&D takes a pivotal role in nurturing the company's potential. He also briefly gave a heads up on the third generation inheritance of Samsung Electronics; as reporters crowded around Mr. Lee, he gathered his two daughters and held their hands and said, "I should publicly show off my two daughters" adding more anticipation of Mr. Lee's intention of the next company leader. When asked whether his two daughters are learning well, Mr. Lee responded saying, "They have lot more to learn and I still feel as though I am holding hands of two youngsters."
