Noted as the leader of human technology, Electronics Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has developed 'Autoworks', an electronic control unit (ECU) software solution, domestically for the first time.
Kim Heung-nam, director of ETRI, announced on the 19th that they have developed Korea's very first electronic control-unit-embedded software platform and development tools, dubbed as 'AutoWorks'.
ETRI's 'AutoWorks' is mainly comprised of two core technologies. First, is the 'AutoWorks-platform technology' that is generally applied in the software of ECU and 'AutoWorks-development tool technology' that contains the first element just mentioned above, providing improved control unit system.
'AutoWorks-platform technology', in particular, is developed in accord with AUTOSAR (AUTomative Open System ARchitecture) standard and provides essential services to ECU's operating software such as, resource management, telecommunications, scheduling, and execution environment. This technology acts as the operating system and middleware.
'AutoWorks-development tools technology' also obeys AUTOSAR's standards and regulations and constitutes ECU's system. It assembles and realizes ECU's components in a step-by-step process; it too enables its' execution environment to self-run and allows the users to choose and combine necessary software of each ECU-enabled vehicles, while having a built in 'AutoWorks-platform'.
Thus, this miraculously convenient, all-in-one 'AutoWorks' can save excessive cost because it combines the work of system composition and ECU composition tools while other companies' tools are composed in a separate fashion. Plus, it bursts synergy effects of increasing productivity and developing credible software, driven by functions of reusable software system and automatic execution environment.
Director of 'AutoWorks' development and ETRI's team leader, Han Tae-man says, "ETRI's recently formed ECU embedded software solution technology raised the company's reputation, riding the momentum of the trend of ever increasing demand in Korean vehicles. Currently we are focusing on developing next-generation network technology and multimedia platform."
ETRI's 'AutoWorks' is sponsored by the Ministry of Knowledge and Economy in the name of "Automotive Electronics Comprehensive Control Unit Software Platform Development." This research was jointly developed by Hyundai Motors, Mando co., Desung Electronic co., Confitech, and Good Software Lab. ETRI's 'AutoWorks' will be launched in 2011. In addition, this fresh technology will enter the '2nd International Automotive Electronics Technology Expo (2010.1.20~22)' in Tokyo, Japan.
