According to People's Daily Online, Beijing, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China responded to the Hillary's statement. Ma Chao Xu, a Spokesman for the ministry said, "Hillary condemned Chinese policies for controlling the Internet. But these are not true, her statement could damage relations between U.S. and China."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "The Chinese Internet is open, Internet has been developed very fast in China, the number of Chinese netizens has reached 384 million last year, there are 3.68 million Chinese websites, and 180 million Chinese Blogs. Chinese constitution protects the freedom of speech, and the government prompts many policies for developing online networks. China has its own policies and cultural traditions, and supervises its Internet legally. Chinese law prohibits people from hacking into private and public computers."
Ma Chao Xu added, "China demands U.S. not to use a unreal story to denounce China. I hope that Washington will focus on how to strengthen the relationship between us, as China has done."
