On February 3, 2010, Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) held a strategic conference that analyzed the broadcast-communication market trend and found a way to expand exporting.
The conference was hosted by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and sponsored by KOTRA and Korea Electronics Association (KEA). Over 100 visitors attended the conference and broadcast-communication system companies such as Beyond Strategy and Samsung SDS presented their strategies and cases about advancing in the overseas market.
At the conference, presenters emphasized that Korean broadcast-communication companies need to rapidly advance in the overseas digital broadcasting device market. This is because Japanese companies such as Sony and Panasonic still have a powerful name value and high market shares in broadcast-communication market, but also China companies threaten Korean companies' position with low-priced products.
In terms of global broadcasting trend, United States has already stopped analog broadcasting since last June. Japan will change its broadcasting system to digital in 2011, and developing countries such as India, Russia and Malaysia have been constructing an infrastructure and system for digital broadcasting. Under these market conditions Korean companies have to focus on digital broadcasting devices such as set-top box, internet protocol TV and digital TV.
Kwak Dong-woon, Executive Vice President for Marketing of KOTRA said, "I think that Digital Cocooning Syndrome will be more powerful in 2010, so Korean broadcast-communication industry must focus on advancing in the overseas market and developing digital broadcasting devices."
