The outlook for this year's semiconductor market is that it will have a record increase of 4.4 percent even after last year's financial crisis. It is being predicted that the semiconductor market will rapidly grow by 66 percent compared to last year. This is due to market recovery and new investments in factories and facilities.
Stanley Myers, President of Semiconductor Equipment Material International (SEMI), was present at the event SEMICON Korea 2010 that was held on February 3, 2010, at COEX. SEMI is a worldwide trade organization of manufacturers of equipment and materials used in creating semiconductors. He started off by saying, "This year, the worldwide semiconductor output is going to reach 16 million, with many of them being the 200mm wafers. This is a 4.4 percent growth compared to last year. The scale for investment in factories and facilities is going to be US$25.1 billion, a 66 percent growth from last year's US$15.1 billion." During his speech, he signified that the financial crisis is passing and the semiconductor market will gradually recover. This year's goal for total output of semiconductors is set at 16 million semiconductors. However, by next year, they will put in their efforts to successfully breakthrough over 17 million semiconductors.
