The Information Technology Professionals Association of Korea held a breakfast and seminar on February 10 under the title 'Software Korea Quantum Jump Strategy' agenda. The speaker of the day was the head of development power department from the Ministry of Knowledge Economy.

Korea's IT industry is focused on semiconductor and IT as its main forces. Meanwhile, software (SW) businesses are lagging behind, altogether developing asymmetric IT structure. To note, the software sector alone is crucial and also it exists as an essential infrastructure that enhances the competitiveness of the country.

If one probes into the world's SW trend, the movement is going from hardware to software; for instance, iPhone made a huge success by improving and picking up on software, investing roughly KRW1 trillion. Moreover, the merger between software and hardware created a new market that will further push IT advancement forward. Thus, the government sets a plan to strengthen the software sector via incorporating hardware power, IT infrastructure, and experience in electronic government. By all means, Korea will expand into the global market by putting up strategy resources and intellectual personnel to foreign IT nations.

In order to implement such grandiose plan, the governmental organizations will reform software industry and improve the Red Ocean. Also, they will increase employment and investment to secure bright talents. Finally, they will expand the plan on software R&D by 2013 compared to 2009.
