The usual IPTV where people watched in their living rooms have evolved into portable IPTV2.0. The users can use various IP multimedia services that are converged into broadcasting; Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) made a sensational victory of being certified of their technology as international standard. This is significant for both ETRI and Korea because this marks the beginning of more portable technologies.
ETRI revealed on February 17, that their technology has been certified at ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union- Telecommunication Standardization Sector) international standard meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, where 164 representatives from 22 countries attended. User context profile and certified technology sector obtained approval at this meeting.
This recently standardized technology is a prerequisite to create a range of business models that merged with mobile IPTV. This also elevates companies' advertisement value by providing various ad services that meet specific individual tastes. For example, 25 year old male and 17 year old female who are watching a live soccer game via mobile IPTV will receive different mobile ads. For the man, he will have "soccer shoes" ad popping up and the teenage girl will get a "soccer game" ad.
"We plan to expand and pave the way for our up to date IPTV2.0 sector to influence the international market" said Lee Ho-jin, Director of the Telecommunications and Broadcasting Research Laboratory of ETRI.
