3D TV

Samsung Electronics Co. recently announced their plans to begin selling their 3D televisions in the U.S. market. Samsung, currently the television industry's leader in flat-screen TV's, will begin selling their 46-inch and 55-inch 3D televisions in the U.S. The 46-inch 3D television will be priced at US$2,599 while the 55-inch 3D television will be priced at US$3,299. Other premium 3D television models will be released over the next several months. Samsung stated that all customers who purchase these products will get a kit that includes viewing glasses and the 3D version of the movie "Monsters vs. Aliens," under a deal with Dreamworks Animation SKG Inc.

Other television companies are also planning to enter the U.S. market with their 3D television products. Sony and LG Electronics announced that they will begin selling their 3D products in the U.S. Currently; they are both trailing Samsung in the television market, but are competing against each other to become second in the television industry. Panasonic is ranked fourth in the television making industry, and it will also beginning selling 3D televisions in the U.S. They plan to work together with Best Buy, the United State's top electronics retailer, to promote their new 3D televisions.

These television companies believe that 3D televisions will be the next popular product within the 3D industry. Due to the highly popular 3D movie "Avatar," television making companies believe that these new 3D televisions could be that new product consumers are looking for. They hope that the shift from 2D televisions to 3D televisions will have the same effect as the transition of black-and-white televisions to color televisions. However, to make these products a success, these companies much overcome certain obstacles. As of right now, there is a scarcity of 3D content and some people may not like the idea of wearing glasses while viewing their televisions.
