Apple has made another new controversial device for its mobile device industry. Although the iPad itself is controversial the A4 chip, a fingernail- size chip at the tablet's heart, has become a new important device not only for the device and the people using it, but also for Apple. The A4 is the first chip made by Apple; its significance is big for Apple since this approach gives them the chance to build faster, more battery- friendly products than its rivals. The A4 chip is crucial to the iPad's speed, reliability and 10-hour battery life; soon every Apple product's chips will be replaced with this new chip. Steven P. Jobs, Apple's chief executive, heralded the A4 chip as "the most advanced chip" Apple has ever used
However for all these good effects follows bad consequences for Apple. Therefore, by designing processors burdens Apple with additional engineering costs and potential product delays. It also forces the company to hire and retain experienced chip designers. Apple bought its way into the chip business in 2008, by acquiring 150 employees from PA Semi. PA Semi had been working on chips that could handle large volumes of data while consuming very low amounts of power. Even with these consequences Apple has a history of trying to ostentatiously best its competition, promoting the MacBook Air, the thinnest laptop, and by making the A4 chip. Thus, Apple appears to have bought a small lead over its rivals or at least kept pace with other companies.
