PACid Technologies, a US data encryption company, filed a lawsuit recently with the Texas Eastern District Court in the United States against Samsung Electronics.

According to the complaint, PACid claims that Samsung Electronics violated three patents on biometric data encryption.

The bill is expected to be 2.82 billion USD (about 3 trillion won), considering the sale of all models after 2016. PACid Technologies argue that most of its major models, including the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S7, S7 Edge, S8, and S8+, are equipped with software that use illegal data encryption methods. This includes biometric operating system Pass and in-house platform Knox.

Samsung Electronics said it plans to review the contents of PACid’s complaint before seeking countermeasures.
