KT and Siemens, a German company specializing in power and automation equipment, will work together to build a future smart power plant on ICT. The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on May 16th at Seoul Square in Jung-gu, Seoul.
The agreement was attended by key officials from both companies including Han Sang-hyun, KT’s Chief director of public customer service and Suk Bum-jun, Chief director of Siemens Korea’s Development service.
Under the agreement, the two companies will work together to develop a smart power plant in Korea, establish a wireless network (LTE/IoT) and set smart sensing and control of its power generation facilities, and work together to find AI, AR, drones and mobile based smart services that are specialized for power plants.
Siemens Korea is focusing its capabilities on power, automation, and digitalization, including power generation, delivery and substation, smart grid solutions, and power energy applications. In particular, Siemens Korea’s power generation services division focuses on solutions and platforms related to industrial power plants and compressors for oil and gas production.
KT has been implementing LTE for businesses that have secured security for many public organizations and businesses. Furthermore, it also has a variety of ICT capabilities and experiences that can be applied to smart power plants such as IoT, AI, Big Data, AR and VR, and drone technologies as well as 5G that was unveiled at the Pyeonchang Winter Olympics.
KT explained that this applied to the power generation service business owned by Siemens Korea will maximize the synergy between the two companies.
“We expect the smart power generation industry to be an important foundation for the construction of a high-tech smart city in Korea. We will contribute to this cooperation based on the know-how we have accumulated through the operation of out power generation equipment and service network all over the world,” said Suk Bum-jun, Chief director of Siemens Korea’s Development service.
