The Ministry of Knowledge Economy plans to operate a support center to develop policies about construction IT. Construction IT refers to using the latest in information technologies in the construction of next-generation intelligent buildings. Several businesses and schools have already begun forming research meetings to incorporate IT into building development projects, specifically to revive the Four Rivers Project.
When the center starts to operate, the MKE can be expected to suggest various policies to the Four Rivers Project. Before the center was established, the Ministry had only suggested elementary ideas like introducing LEDs to lighting views.
According to the agencies and businesses concerned, the MKE is going to open the center next month, and has chosen the Korea Home Network Industries Association (HNA) as the consigned manager. The ministry plans to invest 600 million won (US$387,600) in the center for two years.
The center will arrange statistical research, and form a good technical base by examining successful foreign and domestic cases of construction IT.
An official from HNA said: “There is no statistical data about the Green New Deal, such as the Four River Project, building Ubiquitous Cities, and construction IT, even though the Green New Deal is a hot issue recently. The center will study combining IT with buildings and apartments first, and then move on to the Four Rivers Project.”
Lee Yeong-ro, head of the u-Infrastructure Division under the National Information Society Agency (NIA) pointed out: “The agency who manages the Four Rivers Project and the Green Growth Council are going to execute polices, but it is better if experts from various fields put their heads together to think up new ideas, and examine the propriety of the policies. Then, we should think how new agencies can be jointly responsible among them.”
