The POSCO Steel Village project was announced by the United Nations as an excellent example of corporate social contribution activity. POSCO introduced the Steel Village Project, an excellent implementation of SDGs, to all 193 UN member countries at the United Nations High Level Political Forum event hosted by the Minitry of Foreign Affairs at the UN Headquarters on July 18th.

The Steel Village Project is a social contribution activity that uses POSCO Group’s steel materials and construction methods to make houses and bridges for people living in harsh environments.
Since 2014, POSCO has built 104 steel houses and steel bridges poor Vietnamese neighborhoods, and this year, it donated Steel Domes to Thai schools.

“A case of authenticity like the POSCO Steel Village project is an example of changing the paradigm of developing countries and the international community in social contribution activities in the private sector,” said Jo Tae-yeol, the Korean Ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

“It is an honor for POSCO to share its hope for developing countries and the world with its know-how, which has created infinite possibilities with scarce resources,” said Kwak Jung-sik, Managing Director of POSCO External Relations.

POSCO Steel Village was listed as a best practice on the UN website of sustainable development last November. In April, this year, it was selected as a model for sustainable development by the 51st United Nations Population Development Commission.

Meanwhile, Kia’s GiGa Island and the Steel Village Project, both social ventures, and the Triwanet coffee business were also shared as examples.
