Aplix Corporation today announced the availability of its picoJBlendTM platform as the development environment of choice for Actel Corporation's (NASDAQ:ACTL) SmartFusionTM intelligent mixed signal FPGAs. SmartFusion intelligent mixed signal FPGAs are the only devices that integrate an FPGA, ARM® CortexTM-M3, and programmable analog, offering full customization, IP protection, and ease-of-use. The partnership will enable Actel and its customers to quickly develop and bring to market intelligent power management solutions.
One of the most compelling applications of intelligent power management solutions is a Smart Grid, which revolutionizes the delivery of electricity to consumers. By enabling applications to be embedded on an appliance, within a consumer's home, the Smart Grid is able to save energy, reduce cost, and increase reliability and transparency.
Aplix and Actel will be demonstrating a Smart Grid solution in Actel's booth #930 at the Embedded System Conference Silicon Valley in San Jose, California from April 26-29, 2010.
picoJBlend is Aplix' solution for intelligent module manufacturers, SoC, mass storage devices, and routers. Based on a very small footprint and Eclipse Integrated Development Environment plug-in, picoJBlend has an Application Programming Interface set that is essential for intelligent devices and facilitates a dramatic improvement in application development efficiency. In addition, picoJBlend leverages the advantages of the JavaTM programming language, which is familiar to network programmers and is therefore most suited to intelligent devices that are connected to various networks.
Ryu Koriyama chief executive officer, Aplix said, "The opportunity to make appliances intelligent through programmable connectivity is a huge opportunity. We are delighted to be partnering with Actel to make the development of applications quicker and smarter."
"There are definite advantages in utilizing the simplicity of Java programming language in creating power management solutions," said Rich Kapusta, vice president, marketing and business development at Actel. "We feel that the sheer ease with which connected applications can be developed using picoJBlend will add significant value for SmartFusion customers, especially in creating new Smart Grid devices and applications."
