Some models have a soot formation due to overheating of the LED panel

Some LED panel models sold by Samsung Electronics in the US have melted due to overheating. For this, it was confirmed that US consumers filed a class action lawsuit demanding compensation for damages.

Amid this, KBS has revealed that Korean consumers have been complaining about similar issues for years.

According to reports two months ago, the left and right edges of a Samsung’s 65-inch Smart TV screen that was released in 2015 turned black and it was too hot to touch. The temperature went up to 60 degrees.

After inquiring for repairs, Samsung said it would pay 581.19 dollars to replace the panel since the warranty period has expired.

Consumer A said, “Because the product was self-defective, I thought that the repairs would be free, but when they said it was not, I thought it was nonsensical.

Another customer bought a 50-inch Smart TV at the end of 2015 but the screen suddenly started malfunctioning in May.  The screen went off when the light on the LED panels started blinking two or three times. Because the two-year warranty expired, the customer had to pay 268 dollars for the repair.

In the last 2-3 years, there has been a steady stream of comments by consumers who complain of similar issues in the Internet community.

In response, Samsung Electronics explained that its TV repair policy follows the consumer protection law of each country and provides free service due to the causes of overheating.

Meanwhile, in relation to the class lawsuit in the United States, white light has appeared on both side of the Samsung Smart TV screen that was produced in Mexico in 2015 and sold to the United States.

After tearing off the TV, it was found that the area where the LED panel was installed was burned due to overheating. Inconveniences caused by this phenomenon have been reported steadily in the past three years.

As the damages continued, consumers filed a class action lawsuit in the US District Court for the District of New Jersey earlier this month, claiming damages against Samsung Electronics’ US corporation.
