Samsung Heavy Industries announced on August 17th that it has secured a 370 million dollar contract from Celsius Tankers, a European shipping company, to build two 180,000 cubic meter Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carriers.
According to Samsung Heavy Industries, the carriers it received were equipped with a membrane (Mark-III Flex) type cargo hold, a vaporized gas re-liquefaction device, a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), and a Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS), which make them suitable for environmental regulations.
In addition, the efficiency of the operation was improved through the fuel saving technology optimized for the operating conditions of ship owners. SAVER Air, which builds air layers between the surface of the hull and sea water, will also help improve efficiency.
Previously, Samsung Heavy Industries decided to apply the world’s first air lubrication system to its 23,000 TEU (1 TEU is equal to a 6m container) container ship that it received from MSC last year.
