KOTRA and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy Attempt to Broaden Global Financial Investments

KOTRA and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy are attempting to broaden global financial investments from Korean companies to foreign companies. Together, they plan to host the "Global Financial Investment Attraction Roadshow" held on May 3 in Los Angeles, and May 5 in Silicon Valley. Many funding, venture capital, and asset management companies will participate. At this event, there will be a total of 11 companies from Korea who are looking for possible investments, including IB investments and Mirae Asset Maps Investment. There will be over 100 companies from the United States including, Disney Pension Funds and San Diego County Pension Funds.

The Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) will be present and be in charge of the M&A and financing areas. Through their collaboration, they will try to vitalize Korea's long-term funding firms and venture capital firms and as well as help in fund mangement. All of these business meetings will be held on a 1 on 1 basis.

The LA area will seek to help firefighter's and police officer's pensions, city official's retirement pensions, county pensions. Plus, other areas including internet, games, IT, and knowledge service management. The Silicon Valley area will look to boost IT, mobile enterprise, and cutting edge technology for assets management and electric power enterprise investments. The outlook is that the Korean funds will provide a boost for these needs. The scale for the LA area for funds and indirect investment is US$13 billion while the Silicon Valley area's scale is US$11 billion.

KOTRA's, Ahn Hong Chul, also the leader of Invest Korea stated, "This conference will expand Korea's investment towards America's major fund investors. Most importantly, attractive investments will help relieve the economic crisis. This is a golden opportunity for Korea."
