Samsung Group topped the list of the employment of retired public officials who are subject to the screening of the Public Service Ethics Law over the past decade. 

Samsung Electronics Co. and Samsung Economic Research Institute employed the biggest number of 47 such retired public officials. Twelve employees of Samsung Electronics Service that was investigated on suspicion of "labor union destruction" were all police officers. 

According to the analysis result of the employment screening status of public officials retired from 2008 to 2018, which was released by the Office of Rep. Lee Jeong-mi, the number of jobs attained was 3,104 out of the total of 3,560 requests, excluding 456 that were limited in employment. Among them, 181 were employment cases of Samsung Group affiliates.

 It said, "A total of 47 retired public officials garnered jobs at Samsung Electronics and Samsung Economic Research Institute, which were indicted by the prosecution on suspicion of destroying labor unions. In particular, 12 people who were reemployed by Samsung Electronics Service were all police officers, all of whom were recruited for the last six years since 2012 when labor unions were established in Samsung Group."

Samsung Group (181) topped the list of the employment of retired public officials, followed by  Hyundai Group (130), Hanwha Group (67), Lotte Group (49), and SK Group (47). The construction industry employed the biggest number of about 200 retired public officials.

Rep. Lee said, "Recruitment of retired public servants has a positive function of using individuals' ability for society development by reflecting the restrictions set by the Public Service Ethics Law, but has a reverse function that companies have to read face of related public servants."
